This funky call to "rally, rise and shine, open up your sleepy mind" was inspired by my boys when they were toddlers and used to come in and jump on my head to wake me up in the morning. It's a horrifying way to wake up, shocking every time, but then the awareness would dawn that these were my boys, and they were here to snuggle and, literally, "open my mind", and everything would shift into a gift. So, this song is a testament to the grand adventure of rising each and every morning to a new opportunity to live, laugh and play with those we love. (And also to the secret desire we all have to wear our jammies and stay cozy and relaxed All Day Long. If I was in charge of holidays, I would certainly declare an annual Jammy Day.)
lyrics
when the sun begins its risin’
and the day’s self-realizin’
well it’s time to get up, time to wake up
when your dreams are fleetly flittin’
and reality is hittin’
well it’s time to get up, time to wake up
when the darkness is retreatin’
and your belly feels like eatin’
then it’s time to get up, time to wake up
it’s time to stretch out of your lazies
and invite in all the crazies
time to rally, rise and shine
open up your sleepy mind
it’s time to get your booty out of bed
jump down, turn around, what I said
shake those cobwebs outta your head
get your booty out get your booty out
get your booty outta bed
well it’s time to go explorin’
but your grownups are still snorin’
well it’s time to get up, time to wake up
so you tiptoe into their room
sneaky creepy in the gloom
because it’s time to get up, time to wake up
and then you jump on ‘em and scream!
crashin’ right into their dreams
oh yeah it’s time to get up, time to wake up
sayin’, let’s go play!
and make pancakes today
it’s time to rally, rise and shine
open up your sleepy mind
jam jam jammies yeah I say jam jam jammies
jam jam jammies yeah I say jam jam jammies
we wanna wear our jammies
we wanna wear our jammies all day
we’re gonna wear our jammies
we’re gonna wear our jammies all day
yeah, we’re wearin’ our jammies
we’re gonna wear our jammies all day
uh huh uh huh we’re wearin’ our jammies
so you better…
