about
I wrote this song on my way to perform at the Mountain View Library in the summer of 2014. The original lyric in the second half of the chorus was "sing a summer song underneath the old tree" because they have this huge, gorgeous, ancient oak tree under which families sit and enjoy the library's public concerts for families. I eventually changed the lyric to "the way we love the world is everything" (because it's true!), but the original dedication to that fabulous summer place and vibe (and tree!) remain. Thanks Mt. View, for inspiring this song!
lyrics
sing a summer song
sing it for the earth
sing it for the flowers
and sing it for the dirt
sing it for the singing birds
and for the green trees
sing it for the wiggly worms
and for the honey bees
sing a summer song
sing a summer song
sing a summer song
for you and me
sing a summer song
sing a summer song
the way we love the world
is everything
sing it for the long days
and for the tiny nights
sing it for the june bugs
and for the fireflies
sing it for the gardens
and sing it for the rain
sing it for the sunshine
we love them both the same
sing a summer song
sing a summer song
sing a summer song
for you and me
sing a summer song
sing a summer song
the way we love the world
is everything
summer is a-comin’
and it’s right around the corner
you can see it getting brighter
you can feel it getting warmer
you can smell it in the growing things
you can hear it when the animals speak
taste it in the hanging fruit
run through it in your bare feet
your bare feet
your bare bare feet
sing it for the mountains
and sing it for the sea
sing it for the rivers
and for the valleys
sing it for the animals
and sing it for the plants
sing it for the people
and how they love to dance
sing a summer song
sing a summer song
sing a summer song
for you and me
sing a summer song
sing a summer song
the way we love the world
is everything
sing for earth, for love, for all
sing for earth, for peace, for love, for all
