about

This is a song about losing and finding your way, within rather than without. About trusting yourself. As Alan Watts says, if you don't trust yourself, then how can you trust that you're right about not being able to trust yourself? The only way that makes any sense at all is to trust yourself. It's logic.

lyrics

you can wander the wilderness
sail the seven seas
climb the highest mountain peaks
cross the valleys
traverse the driest deserts
get pounded by the rain
but the song in your heart
is never goin' away

you can dig deep down into the earth
fly to a distant star
searchin' for a treasure chest
and riches from afar
for diamonds and rubies
golden coins and silver rings
but the song in your heart
is your most treasured thing

you can't lose it, you can't break it
you can't fudge it or fake it
you can't sell it, you can't buy it
and you sure can't deny it
you can't trade it, loan it
beg, borrow, steal or own it
'cause the song in your heart
is with you for good

so if you ever think you’ve lost it
feel alone and scared and blue
confused about which road to take
don't know which path is true
float quietly and listen
like a bird upon the wing
for the song in your heart
and you will hear it sing
